Obituary

During the early hours of June 19, 2021, Philip T. Williamson, II passed away in the comfort of his home in Pensacola, FL from complications associated with dementia. Phil was 83 years old.

Phil was born on September 30, 1937 and raised in Norfolk, VA, he was an only child to Beulah Ives Dutterer and Russell Hall Williamson. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and became an Eagle Scout at seventeen. He graduated from Granby High School and shortly afterwards joined the Virginia National Guard. He became a Norfolk firefighter and later moved to Clearwater, FL where he continued his work as a firefighter and joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. Later returning to Norfolk, Phil began his Federal Civil Service career at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, in Portsmouth, VA. Altogether, he served 38 years for his country; eight years in the Virginia National Guard and 30 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Pensacola. He spent six years of his retirement living in Sicily and immersing himself in the culture.

Phil had a menagerie of well-loved pets throughout his life; most precious was his black lab, Julie, who was his side-kick and fishing partner until her passing in Pensacola. He enjoyed exploring and traveling throughout the United States and overseas. His passions included photography, gardening, fishing, history and archiving, tinkering, music and dancing, cooking up a plethora of cuisines for family and friends, and connecting with people. Those who knew him in his golden years can attest to his mastery of making homemade Limoncello from his meticulously grown lemon trees.

Phil is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cynthia D. Williamson, his son, Philip T. Williamson, III (Karla) of Idaho Springs, CO, his daughter, Andrea W. Armstrong (Steve) of St. Augustine, FL, and his grandchildren, Brian M. Armstrong, and Phoebe C. Armstrong; as well as a great many close friends and colleagues.

A Memorial Service with military honors will be 1:00pm Sunday, June 27, 2021 at Harper - Morris Memorial Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Ken Griffin.

Special thanks to Vitas Healthcare (Hospice) for the exceptional caring attention given to Phil and his wife, Cindy.
