Obituary

Phillip "Butch" Wayne Parker, 55, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Friday, August 29, 2014. Butch was born on October 16, 1958 in Detroit, MI. He graduated from Good Hope High School in 1977 and from Auburn University in 1983 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. He was in ROTC at Auburn during the beginning of his Naval career and continued his service with the US Navy for 14 years, where he served as Lt. Commander Phillip "Fess" Parker. Among the numerous awards he received was the Gold Wreath Award for Excellence from the US Navy, along with the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/bronze star, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd) and the .45 cal Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon. Butch was associated with M.E.P. Engineering Solutions and Gulf Coast Engineering after leaving the Navy. He was a long-time Auburn fanWAR EAGLE! Preceding him in death was his father, Lloyd Parker; a sister, Pam Parker and a niece, Gretchen Gardner. He is survived by his daughter, Lainey (Nik) Keller and a son, Phillip (PJ) Wayne Parker, Jr.; his mother, Nelda Parker; brothers, Keith (Sonya) Parker and Gary (Jennifer) Parker; sisters, Rhonda Mac, Cindy (Tim) Gardner, Lisa (Mike) Abad and Kim Plylar along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Monday, September 1, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery at 12:30pm with Navy honors. Pallbearers will be Keith Parker, Tim Gardner, Gary Parker, Mike Abad and Mark Lowe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, P. O. Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007 or Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Hospice Residence, 10075 Hillview Rd., Pensacola, FL 32514. Special thanks are given to the staff at Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice, Sacred Heart Hospital and to Carnival Cruise Lines.
