Obituary

Dr. Philomena K. Marshall passed away on April 11, 2015. She was born and raised in Munich, Germany. After World War II she worked for the American Military as a translator during which time she met and fell in love with a young Army Captain named Sam Marshall. The couple married in Alexandria, Louisiana and later relocated to Pensacola where Sam opened an architectural practice. Philomena fell in love with Pensacola and quickly found ways to contribute to her new community. She was involved with The Music Study Club, the Garden Club, the Fiesta of Five Flags, the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra where she served as president, the Navy League through which she and Sam sponsored numerous foreign flight students, the Women's Alliance, Manna Food Bank and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. When her daughter Teresa and her son Mike went off to college she went back to school as well. Starting at PSC she earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees from UWF and a PhD in Psychology from Walden College in Minnesota. She opened a private practice in Pensacola and worked as a staff psychologist at Sacred Heart Hospital. Philomena loved life. She enjoyed surfing and swimming at Pensacola Beach and riding horses at the family's farm in Barrineau Park. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed entertaining. She was a people person and had the gift of making anyone feel at ease. She was Oma to her grandchildren and enjoyed leading them on adventures around the farm and trips all over the world. Philomena is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johannes Wengbauer and by her husband of 60 years Sam Marshall. She is survived by her sisters, Erika Koehler and Eva Doebler; her children, Mike (Suzy) Marshall, Dr. Teresa Marshall and by her grandchildren Ben, Sam and Luke Marshall and Matt and Katy English. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday April 17, 2015 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Jude Tahddeus Catholic Church, 303 Rocky Ave., Cantonment, FL 32533 on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. George Thekku celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
