Phyllis Sherrouse, 87, of Pensacola, FL passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023.
Phyllis was born in New Orleans, LA on November 4, 1935, to Eunice (Lietz) and Philip Nungesser. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and graduated from H. Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, where she studied Art, History, and Speech. In 1958, she met and married Jim Sherrouse a Navy Pilot, and lived a life of adventure and travel as a devoted Navy wife and mother for 30 years. Phyllis and Jim retired to Pensacola and spent the rest of their years enjoying the good life in Pensacola. Her hobbies including reading, arts, crafts, gardening, tennis, going to plays and concerts, and doting on her granddaughters. Phyllis was an avid Saints fan and spent every Sunday cheering them on.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Sherrouse; parents, Phil and Eunice Nungesser; and sister Barbara Hantel.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Hyslop (Tom) of Fenton, MI, and Lisa Sherrouse of Pensacola, FL; granddaughters, Lauren Heleine (Adam), and Caroline Rathbun (Jake); great granddaughter, Charlotte Rathbun all from MI; brother Phil Nungesser (Sheila) of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be 2:30pm until the Funeral Service at 3:00pm Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Mike Mashburn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, 1750 Radford Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32508.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to the caring Staff at Summer Vista for caring so well for her for the past six years while she lived with her dementia, and to Emerald Coast Hospice for their loving care.
