Obituary

Ralph L. "Sonny" Roberds passed away peacefully on May 28, 2014, with his wife and best friend Betty at his side. He was born and raised in Pensacola, graduated from PHS, and attended Auburn University. He grew up in a loving home filled with faith, family and friends. He loved everything to do with the water and was an avid water skier and swimmer, loved fishing and was famous for his cajun fish fries. As a young man, he worked for Carl's Bakery, Delchamps, Gordons Potato Chip Co. and Easy-Rent. Later in life he moved to and fell in love with Texas where he was superintendent over bridge building for over 20 years. He then returned to Pensacola and worked for T-Gill Fuels and Lawn Master. He owned and operated Sonny's Sod at the time of his last hospitalization. His faithful friend and employee Jorge Aguayo was always there for him. He was very active in Gadsden Street United Methodist Church (GSUMC), the church of his youth, where he served on and chaired many committees. His very best friend was his Pastor Bobby Ellisor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralphine and Lucille Roberds; daughter, Allison Roberds; stepson, Keith Taylor and a son-in-law, David Luckey. He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 25 years, Betty; sister, Pat Morgan (David); daughters, Deanie Singleterry, Cyndi Hermann (Rob), Angela Crenshaw (Richard), Jennifer Saunders and Jacqueline Pebworth (Randy); stepdaughters, DeLynne Luckey, Donna Sorrells (Frankie) and Jeanine Noegel (Buddy). He was affectionately known as "PapaSonny" to his grandchildren, Chaz Singleterry (Brandi), Scott, Daniel, and Jaime Singleterry, Tyler and Julie Hermann, Casey and Kendall Crenshaw, Jonny and Ryan Saunders, Jonathan Pebworth, Lauren Lawson, Beth Covin (Kevin), Samantha, Lexie and Timothy Lewis, Sam Luckey, Frank Sorrells, Jr. (Kim), Audrey Goodwin (Joe), Matthew Sorrells, Catie Carter (Daniel), Natalie Grasso (Brandon), Randy Thomas (Sally) and great-grandchildren Karis & Jude Singleterry, Michael Taylor, Valerie and Mia Goodwin, Frankie Sorrells, III, Jason Bleith, Ryan Sorrells, June Carter, Kaleb Covin, Brandon and Cheyenne Thomas and Abigail Taylor. Visitation will be held 2:00-4:00pm Sunday June 1, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 10:00am at Gadsden Street United Methodist Church with Rev Bobby Ellisor officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the GSUMC Buiding Fund or Lighthouse Christian Academy. He will be loved forever & missed by all who knew him.
