Obituary

Raymond J. "Ray" Hennick, age 86, of Pensacola, passed away unexpectedly on December 21, 2018.  He was born August 4, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Charles and Anna Hennick.  Ray grew up in Cranbury, NJ and was a class of 1955 alumnus of Georgia Tech and a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.  After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served 22 years as a naval aviator.  Upon retirement he founded Hickory River Craftsmen, a custom woodworking and design company.

Ray was an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church for over 45 years, where he attended mass daily.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was known as a "Silent Hero," donating his time and talent to help those in need.  He is remembered for his devotion to his faith and family.  He will be greatly missed.

Ray is preceded in death by his cherished wife Mary Isabel O'Carroll Hennick; son Michael Hennick; his parents; and his sister Joan Hennick Hudson.  Those left to cherish his memory are his children Linda Kent (Paul) of Pensacola, FL, Kevin Hennick of Charleston, SC, Brian Hennick of Pensacola, FL, Timothy Hennick (Lisa) of Birmingham, AL, and Stephanie Blaxton (Phillip) of Collierville, TN; grandchildren Sarah A. Kent of Tampa, FL, Ryan Kent of Washington, DC, Tiffany, Trevor and Amber Hennick - all of Charleston, SC; Mary, Brendan, Maximillian and Victoria Hennick - all of Pensacola, FL; Mason Hennick of Defuniak, FL, Joseph Hennick of Birmingham, AL and Caitlin, Madeline, Emily and Riley Blaxton – all of Collierville, TN; and great-grandchild Raighlyn Coughlin of Pensacola, FL.

The rosary will begin at 2:30pm followed by public visitation from 3:00 – 5:00pm Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola, FL.  Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30am Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3131 Hyde Park Rd., Pensacola, FL.  Interment with full military honors will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at St. Paul Catholic Church in the Geri Room.

In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations in Ray's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  Special thanks are offered to Nita Wilson; the staff of West Florida Home Care Services, especially Cathy Paxton, Vicki Wiley, Alice Riddle, Sandy Wilson; and the many others who showed such kindness and compassion to Ray in his time of need.
