Dr. Ricardo Vallejo Samala, MD, 82, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013. Ricardo was born on May 16, 1931 in Manila, Philippines. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery Medical School in Manila, Philippines. Through a career which spanned more than fifty years he was a devoted physician in the Pensacola medical community; during that time he served as a physician in private practice with Dr. Cliff Payne, Jr., University Hospital, Escambia County Community Clinic, and more recently he served as a physician with the Escambia County Health Department. Beyond medicine, he served a term as President and was an active member of the Association of Philippine Physicians of the Florida Panhandle. He was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. Ricardo is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Charlotte; five children, Ricky Samala of Orlando, Mark Samala of Pensacola, Michael Samala (Jennifer) of Pensacola, Laura Hartmann (Michael) of Austin, Texas, and Paul Samala of Pensacola; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Friday, November 1, 2013 with a Rosary being prayed at 5pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Bascilia of St. Michael the Archangel with Fr. Joseph Callipare celebrant. A private family burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5401 Corporate Woods Dr., Pensacola, FL 32504. The family will be forever grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sacred Heart Medical Oncology Group.
