Obituary

Richard Barker, Sr. 92 of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, November 19, 2021.

Mr. Barker was a lifelong resident of Pensacola, graduating from Pensacola Catholic High School in 1948. He retired from the City of Pensacola, Energy Service Department with a total of 46 years of service. He spent all of his boyhood summers at the family camp off Gulf Beach Highway with his family and friends. Mr. Barker loved to travel especially to our National Parks, he believed in keeping fit and loved to read. For many years he served on the board of My Pensacola Federal Credit Union, as well as the City's General Pension Board. He was a member of the Pensacola alumni Football Team. He also enjoyed assisting as a Boy Scout Leader and football coach at Sacred Heart School.

Mr. Barker was a true listener and extended unconditional love and warmth to both family and friends. He always had a smile to share, and we never knew when he was going to pull another practical joke. He was a happy, giving, loving, to all who knew him. A devoted husband, daddy, grandpa and great grandpa, he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Gerry Barker; daughters, Theresa Wood (Kenneth), Patty Barker, and son, Richard Barker, Jr. (Rene'); his sister, Carolyn Marshall of Australia; grandchildren, Nichole Friedland (Ed), Heather Olmstead (Jeremy), Katie Barker, Bradley Barker (Melissa) and Chelsea Havens; great grandchildren, Makayla, Gabe, Erica, Bryce and Addison.

Visitation will begin at 9:00am Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with the Rosary being prayed at 9:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00am with Msgr. Steve Bosso, and Fr. James Valenzuela, Concelebrants. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum.

Active Pallbearers will be Kenneth Wood, Ed Friedland, Jeremy Olmstead, Katie Barker, Bradley Barker and Chelsea Havens.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gabe Lujan, Bryce Friedland, Ericia Freidland, Makayla Faulkner and Addison Selvio.
