Richard Lee Yelverton, 86, after completion of his earthly service for God, went Home on December 8, 2012. After a brief stay at Sacred Heart Hospital, he passed away under the tender, diligent care of the many doctors, nurses and staff, from complications following heart failure. Richard was born on August 27, 1926, in San Antonio, TX, and spent his life in Pensacola. He served his country as a paratrooper in Germany during World War II, and served the people of Pensacola for over 30 years as a third-generation police officer, recognized twice as Officer of the Year. An avid fisherman, he was born throwing cast nets at Muscogee Wharf, steps away from his childhood home. The most important part of his life was his family and friends. He spent many happy days on the golf course and was very active at Calvary Way Full Gospel Church. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Irene Yelverton, and his brother, John Yelverton. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of more than 60 years, Doris, son Richard Yelverton, II (Marta), daughters Trezza Linton and Tina Meyers (Cliff), grandsons Trey, Matt and Brandon Yelverton, Aaron Bourgeois and Cameron Meyers, granddaughter Casi Meyers, great grandchildren, and sisters-in-law Ruth Joseph and Mary Frances Yelverton. He was "Uncle Foof' to nephews Basil, David and Tim Yelverton, Michael and William Joseph, niece Mary Kim, and is also survived by limitless extended family. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 10am with Pastors Carl Shiver and Jim Diamond officiating. Pallbearers will be Chuck Arnold, Michael Beck, Rick Dunn, Richard Ward, Larry Williams and Dwayne Williamson.
