Robert Anthony Benz, affectionately known as Bob, was born on September 1, 1935, at St. Agnes Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, in Pensacola, FL, surrounded by loved ones.
Bob is predeceased by his father, Frank Clinton Humphreys, Jr.; his mother, Rita Ann Biscardi Benz Humphreys; and his brother, Michael Edward Humphreys.
He leaves behind a legacy and his survivors are the children of ex-wife Christine M. Benz, Natalie C. Vied, Richard W. Langlinais and Keri, Stephen C. Benz and his wife Pamela, and David M. Benz and his wife Terry. His loving ex-wife and caretaker Bonnie M. Benz and her children Alice Sawyer, and Roger Sherman, and wife Monica and Emily Sherman.
His grandchildren are Robert Vied and his wife Holli, Gregory Vied and his wife Ann Marie, Elizabeth Vied and her husband Dr. Blake McDonald and John Michell Benz. Ryan and Chase Langlinais, Jackson, Molly and William Benz, Virginia and Victoria Pippen, Mary Adelyn Benz, Taylor and Sydney Dawson, Andrew and Brent Sawyer, Cortney and Davis Sherman, and Edward Sherman. He also had great-grandchildren, Eloise Evangeline and William Lawrence Vied, Maxwell Mouton Vied, and soon-to-be-delivered Mila Christine McDonald.
Bob lived a remarkable life marked by numerous achievements. While attending Pensacola Catholic High School he earned titles such as All-America, All-State and All-Conference Honors in football and was inducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame. He pursued higher education at Auburn University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and later received a Master of Arts degree from the University of West Florida. Bob's commitment to his community was evident through his active involvement in various affairs, including his dedicated service as a Rotarian, where he was honored as a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
Bob practiced as a Certified Public Accountant, for forty-two years serving clients worldwide with integrity and expertise. His professional excellence was recognized when the Governor of Florida appointed him to the State Board of Accountancy, where he served with distinction.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was a man of deep Patriotism and Service. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and contributed significantly to National Security as a member of two leading Intelligence Agencies, working to protect the nation from domestic and foreign terrorism.
Bob's family invites all who knew him to a public Funeral Mass at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Moreno St. at 12th Ave. in Pensacola, FL, on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 11:00 am. A Reception will follow at Atlas Oyster House, 600 S. Barracks St., Pensacola, FL 32502 from 12-2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Bob's memory to Pensacola Catholic High School, 3043 W. Scott St., Pensacola, FL 32505, or to the Sigma Chi Foundation at Auburn University, Inc., in care of John A. Smyth III, Maynard Cooper, 1901 Sixth Ave. North, Birmingham, AL 35203.
