Obituary

Dr. Bob Cameron, 80, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018.

He grew up in Defiance, OH, and graduated in 1962 from the University of Michigan with a medical degree. In the mid '60s, Bob joined the US Navy, completing Flight Surgeon training at Pensacola, NAS, and subsequently served with the First Marine Air Wing in Vietnam. He would go on to specialize in orthopedic surgery, completing his residency and hand fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell UMC, NYC (1971), with an additional hand fellowship at Princess Margaret Rose Orthopedic Hospital, Edinburgh, Scotland (1982). Prior to starting practice in Pensacola, he moved his family to Tunis, Tunisia, and spent six months as a consultant of orthopedic surgery at the Kassar Said Centre d'Orthopedie.

In 1973, he joined what would become Gulf Coast Orthopedic Specialists. Dr. Cameron served the Pensacola community for over 40 years. He worked as a consultant with the Pensacola Cerebral Palsy Clinic, as a clinical professor at USA, Mobile, AL, and volunteered at the hand clinic in the Navajo Nation US Public Health Service Hospital, Chinle, AZ. Bob helped create both the Pensacola Pain Management Center in 1980 and the North Florida Surgical Center in 1993.

Dr. Cameron was an accomplished surgeon, devoted employer, loving father and husband. Apart from Saturday afternoons in the fall, when "Hail to the Victors" could often be heard emanating from the living room TV, Bob was rarely seen without a tool in his hand. From constructing wooden kayaks, rebuilding antique cars, or fixing anything around the house, he was constantly at work. He enjoyed few activities more than golf, a game he devoted much of his life to. An ardent traveler and voracious reader of nonfiction, Bob always enjoyed learning from the experience of others. He bestowed wisdom upon family and friends during evening dinners over his favorite undercooked, over-salted steak—with wine.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John D. and Elizabeth Shelly Cameron; sister, Jane Bochenek of Defiance, OH; and adopted daughter, Leslie Alexander of Ocala, FL.

Dr. Cameron is survived by his loving wife, Christine Cameron; his 2 sons, Robert Cameron (Becky) of Atlanta, GA, and Joshua Cameron of Pensacola, FL; stepdaughter, Erin Marina Baroco of Grayling, MI; stepson, Dagan Baroco (Tila), of The Woodlands, TX; adopted daughter, Susan Cameron of Mobile, AL; brother-in-law, Bob Bochenek of Defiance, OH; nephews, John Bochenek (Stephany) of Grosse Pointe, MI, and Jim Bochenek (Joyce) of Lima, OH; and grandchildren, Enzo Valle, Sofia Baroco, and a Cameron grandchild on the way.

Visitation will be held 12:00 noon until the Memorial Service at 1:00 pm Friday, July 6, 2018 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rand Hicks officiating.

Heartfelt thanks to Vitas and Covenant Hospices, and Drs. Frank Messina, John Boden, and Jim Smith.
