IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Brownlee
Eggart
September 2, 1919 – December 5, 2017
One of the last true Southern gentlemen, Robert Brownlee Eggart, has joined Louise, his wife of 76 years, in Heaven. Born September 2, 1919 in Mobile, AL to Charles William and Mary Wolfe Eggart, Brownlee moved to Pensacola at four months old and passed away there at 98 on December 5, 2017. He was a well-respected man in the community whom many sought for his sage advice and wise counsel. He had a life-long thirst for knowledge, and he shared his wonderful gift of humor with everyone. His love and laughter will live in our hearts forever.
Brownlee graduated from Pensacola High School and attended the University of Florida where he met Louise Pritchett when they worked in the same office on campus. They were married on December 23, 1941 in the family home on Guillemard Street in Pensacola. After earning his Juris Doctor degree from University of Florida in 1943, he practiced law in Pensacola for 40 years, part of that time serving as a civil judge in Santa Rosa County. While president of the Society of the Bar of the First Judicial Circuit, he helped establish the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association. As a member of the Jaycees, he was instrumental in establishing Wayside Park at the foot of the Pensacola Bay bridge. When he served as president of the Lion's Club, he led the formation of the Pensacola Eye Clinic. His real estate developments include Oakfield Acres and Carpenter's Creek subdivisions in Escambia County and Soundview Woods, Villa Garcon, and Oriole Acres in Santa Rosa County. After retirement, he and Louise built two homes on St. George Island, where they resided for four years. At the time of his passing, Brownlee was the oldest living member of First United Methodist Church in downtown Pensacola.
Brownlee had many hobbies. He was a licensed boat captain and there was not a fish he could not catch. Boating, hunting, cooking and gardening were his favorites. As a member of the Men's Camellia Club, he won many awards for his beautiful blooms, including a grand prize for a gorgeous "Virgin's Blush." He also enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music. When the children were young, the family had many happy summers at their vacation home on Innerarity Point, fishing, skiing and crabbing.
Brownlee and Louise had an active social life. They loved entertaining, boating and sharing a good joke with their many close friends. His law partners through the years were always considered among their dear friends. They were charter members of Carnival Sunday and belonged to many Mardi Gras and Fiesta dance organizations. Brownlee was a knight on the 1956 Fiesta Court.
Brownlee is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Louise and two brothers, Billy and J.P. Eggart.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters, Emily James (John) of Marco Island, FL, Becky Clark (Cecil) and Judy Eggart of Pensacola; his six grandchildren, Mary Reasoner (Chris) and Jeff James (Liz) of Atlanta, Christina Clark of Gulf Breeze and Jonathan Clark (Virginia) of Pensacola, Dana Hathcote (Jonathan) of McKinney, TX and Trevor Webb (Cathy) of Pensacola; his thirteen great-grandchildren, Sam and Maddie Reasoner, Hannah, Alice and John James, Hayden, Addie and Libbie Frierdich, Maria and Liam Clark, Ryne and Evaleigh Hathcote and Max Webb.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Wesley Wachob officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Haven Villa for providing him a warm, loving and safe residence for the past five years. In lieu of flowers, please make remembrances to The Fountain of Love at Wesley Haven Villa, 111 E. Wright Street, Pensacola, FL, 32501.
