Robert "Bob" Elmer Stewart, 80, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017.
He was born on November 21, 1936 in Winnsboro, TX. Bob was the eldest son of Florence Virginia Turner and John Elmer Stewart. The love of his life, Brenda Joyce Prichard, became his wife in Corpus Christi, TX, on August 1, 1959. They had three children beginning with Kent in 1960, followed by Karl in 1962 and Keith in 1968. He began a naval career in 1955, progressing ultimately to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. As a safety equipment specialist "Parachute Rigger," Bob saw 3 combat tours during the Vietnam conflict. The many remote ports of call of his continued peacetime service included extended Middle East deployment. His medals include: 4 Navy Good Conduct, 2 Vietnam Service, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign, as well as a Navy Unit Commendation. After a subsequent real estate career after Navy retirement in 1976, he saw a return to civil service at NAS Pensacola soon thereafter, where he worked until final retirement. Bob had an enduring passion for fishing, in which he indulged as often as possible. Other indulgences included coaching youth football and basketball, as well as occasional Freemasonry.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Stewart; his 3 sons, Kent Stewart (Nancy), Karl Stewart (Maggie) and Keith Stewart (Debbie); one sister, Jerry; and two brothers, Kelly and Gordon; also grandchildren, Laurel, Neel, Krista, and Nickolas; as well as five great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held 11:30am Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating. Committal Service will follow at 12:30pm at Barrancas National Cemetery with full Navy Honors.
