Obituary

Robert Lee Sweeney passed away peacefully on May 24th, 2016, at the age of 77, in Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Hospice Residence, Pensacola with his loving wife at his side.

He graduated from Assumption High School, Wisconsin Rapids, WI in 1956 and achieved his Master's Degree in Education from U.W. Stout, Menomonie in 1990, where he first met his soul-mate, Sue, from Wales, UK.

Bob made his career in the Navy, completing 25 years in various roles, travelling the world and eventually retiring as CWO4 in 1887.

Following that, his interest in "learning" continued throughout his life. He became an assessor for Escambia County High Schools' English text books. He used his early seminary knowledge of Latin and Greek to pursue further study of Religion and Faith in all its diversity. He loved crosswords and Sudoku. But his greatest personal achievement was his proficiency in French, which enabled him to complete the Chouinard (Sweeney) family genealogy.

He married Susan Maud (Hodgson) Jones on December 27th, 1997. They enjoyed many years of togetherness: golfing at Scenic Hills, reading, attending the theatre and symphony concerts and Evenings in Seville Square, thus making the most of their Florida lifestyle. An annual visit to Wales gave Bob an opportunity to meet Sue's family and friends. They also travelled to Mt. Rushmore, Graceland, Washington, New Orleans and the Hawaiian Islands. Happy just being together.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sue, currently of Pensacola; brothers, Bernard (Jacqueline) of OH and John (Patricia) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and many nieces and nephews. Also he was loved by his step-daughter, Belinda (Damian) of England and sister-in-law, Helen of Wales.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

According to Bob's wishes, a short Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola led by Fr. Chris LeBlanc.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Care Hospice, 5041 North 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504

Grateful thanks are extended to Sacred Heart Cancer Center staff for their kindness and diligence and the Joyce Goldenberg Inpatient Hospice Residence staff for their exemplary care and compassion. A particular recognition is afforded to Bob's own special angel, Karen from People's Home Health, whose dedication and empathy brought a bright light to his days and a final friendship he valued. Thanks also to Pat, Chris and Cindy for all they know they did
