Robert Allen Taylor, 80, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Born on February 7, 1946, in Oakland, CA, Robert lived a life defined by service, loyalty, quiet strength, and an unwavering devotion to the people he loved. Robert graduated from Escambia High School before continuing his education at the University of West Florida, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

A proud United States Marine, Robert served his country honorably from 1964 to 1968, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. His time in the Marine Corps was something he carried with tremendous pride throughout his life. The values of loyalty, courage, brotherhood, and looking out for others remained a part of who he was long after he took off the uniform.

Following his military service, Robert briefly worked for Gulf Power before beginning a distinguished career with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. He served as a deputy from 1974 until his retirement in 2005. During his years with the department, he was also a member of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, combining his professional responsibilities with his love of the water and adventure.

Robert found happiness on the water, where boating, recreational diving, cave diving, and fishing were among his greatest passions. He also enjoyed guns, jeeps, and the simple pleasures of doing the things he loved. He had a quiet way about him, but those who knew him understood the strength of his character, his wonderful sense of humor, and the kindness behind his reserved nature.

One of Robert’s most defining qualities was his generosity. He never hesitated to help someone in need and had a particularly special place in his heart for younger Marines. He often gave freely of himself, offering help and encouragement without ever expecting anything in return. He understood the meaning of brotherhood and the importance of looking out for one another. His generosity was never about recognition; it was simply who he was.

On May 27, 1978, Robert married the love of his life, Ruth Dawson Taylor. Together, they shared 48 years of marriage and built a life centered around family, love, and lasting memories.

Above all else, Robert loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, a constant source of strength, and someone his family could always count on. His greatest pride and legacy live on through his children and grandchildren, who will forever carry his love, lessons, and memories with them.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, William Allen Taylor and Blanche Eaton Taylor.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Dawson Taylor; son, Jason Taylor (Jennifer); daughter, Clair Taylor (Heather); brother, Rick Taylor (Diane); grandchildren, Hunter and Morgan Taylor; and numerous extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Monday, November 9, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Gordon Godfrey officiating. A private family interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full United States Marine Corps honors.
