Robert Francis Testin, 79, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Robert was born on July 20, 1935 in Joliet, IL. He graduated from Oswego High School in Oswego, IL in 1953 and then earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Detroit, graduating "Magna Cum Laude" in 1958. Robert went on to earn his Master's and PHD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1965 and a Professional Executive Management degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1978. During his college years, he worked at Westinghouse/Bettis and at the famed Argonne National Laboratory. Upon graduation, he went to work for Battelle Labs in Columbus, OH as a Professional Engineer. In 1969, he accepted a position with Reynolds Metals Co. at their corporate headquarters in Richmond, VA. There he lived and worked for 18 years and held various executive positions. In 1987, he joined the faculty of Clemson University in Clemson, SC. There, he helped to establish the Packaging Science program, and then directed the program for 18 years. Upon retirement in 2005, he and his beloved wife, Renee, settled in Pensacola, FL. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church and was a consultant for the Aluminum Association and the Institute of Packaging Professionals. Robert was always quick with a joke, a hug and was a loving and generous husband, father and friend. Preceding him in death were his parents, Francis and Loretta (Kelly) Testin. He is survived by his wife, Renee; a brother, Gerald (Lois) of Plainfield, IL; his children, Joan Testin (Barbara) of Rhode Island, Daniel Testin (Karen) of Virginia, Anne Vierela of South Carolina, Rosemary Suess (Michael) of North Carolina and Carolyn Furgason (Curtis) of Alabama; his grandchildren, Jessica Roberts (Walt), Phaedra Mangan, Kristin Vierela, Frankie Vierela, Davis Testin, Blake Suess and Ella Testin along with great grandchildren, Harriet Roberts, Danny Roberts and Amelia Vierela. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday, April 27, 2015 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church with Fr. Chris LeBlanc celebrant. Burial follows at Holy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Suess, Curtis Furgason, Davis Testin, Blake Suess and Daniel Testin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 9945 Hillview Dr., Pensacola, FL 32514.
