Obituary

Bob crossed over on Friday, April 7, 2017. He was a native of Pensacola, graduated from Pensacola High School and Pensacola Junior College. He earned BS and Master of Accounting degrees from Florida State University and a PhD from the Ole Miss School of Accountancy. He worked as a CPA before joining the Department of Accounting and Finance at the University of West Florida. Bob retired as Professor Emeritus after 40 years of service. During his career he served on numerous FICPA committees, published dozens of articles in a variety of journals, and was a contributor to the Uniform CPA Examination. But teaching was his passion and he was always looking for a better way to get the subject matter across to students. After retiring he went on to conduct CPE Seminars for FICPA.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, R.E. (Bob) and G. M. Fahnestock.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Amanda; sisters, Deborah Rutschky and Kathy (David) Nelson; aunts, Colleen Smith and Peggy Doyle as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind some very close friends, Stephen and Mary Holladay and Antonio and Anna Frances Apap.

Bob loved the outdoors and spent as much time as possible fishing, hunting and engaging in the shooting sports. He served for several years on the Board of Directors of the Pensacola Big Game Fishing Club. He was a member of the Pensacola Rifle and Pistol Club for 42 years. He was a certified firearms instructor and taught at the Escambia River Gun Club. In his later years he spent more time hunting deer, working as a certified firearms instructor and playing golf with the Stonebrook MGA. He especially enjoyed deer hunting this past two years with Stacy Reid in Garland, AL. Bob also served as a member of the Florida Marine Patrol Auxiliary and as a reserve officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. He also taught Hunter Safety for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.

Bob was, as were his parents, grandparents and great-grandparents, a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
