IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ron
Archer
November 24, 1942 – November 22, 2022
On Tuesday, November 22, 2022 , Ron Archer took a seat next to his lifelong love, best friend, and wife, Ginger (1942-2005), on the most beautiful beach in Heaven. This is where, for eternity, they will watch a watercolor sunset together. Ron will always be remembered for his sense of adventure, his humor, his incredible singing voice, and his love for teaching and his family.
Ron was born in Pensacola on November 24, 1942 to Blanche Anderson and Kenneth E. Archer. It was there that he was raised and attended Sacred Heart, AV Clubbs Junior High, and Pensacola High (class of 1960). In school he was known for his wit and love of music and
dancing. He continued his education at Pensacola Junior College and then graduated from Florida State University in 1964 with a Bachelor's in Business and a Master's in Educational Administration. He went on to work on a Doctorate in Theater, as theater was a major focus of his life.
Ron became a teacher in New Orleans and then Brown Barge Elementary in Pensacola after graduating from FSU. He later taught at Tate High School where he became very involved in the Tate theater program, directing many shows. After 13 years of teaching, he went to work for the government as a technical writer, moving the family to San Antonio for their first adventure. He went on to work as a project manager for the World Bank and the department of Research and Technology, which would take his family to live in Indonesia, and travel all over the world. He provided for incredible adventures for his family including trips to Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Korea to name a few.
One memory the family always laughed about for many years was the time Ron took the family river rafting in Indonesia. On the trip, Ron lost his footing on the side of a cliff while hiking to the rafting site and was saved by a brawny American soap opera star who was in the group. Ginger, of course, never let him live that down!
As Pensacola was always where his heart was, Ron returned to his roots after Indonesia and once again taught Math and Theater at Tate High School. He is well known for the many plays and musicals he directed while there, and was known for his giving nature and well loved by students and teachers alike. He was also a dedicated member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, where everyone looked forward to his solos in the choir.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Ginger.
He is survived by his daughter, Katharine "Katie" Lloyd Collins (Timothy); his son, Kenneth Eric Archer II; as well as his four grandchildren, Karis Collins, Damian Archer, Rose Archer, and Lana Archer. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Rhodes (Charles dec.) and Judy Haynes (Butch) and his baby brother, Larry Archer (Marylee). Other survivors include Ginger's brother, Rob McDavid (Dee) and sister, Mary Anne Cable (Charlie); aunt, Gloria Collins and his many nieces and nephews by whom he was loved.
