Ronald "Ron" Howard Mitchell, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019, in Pensacola.
Ron was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pamela Mitchell, of Pensacola; his children, Ronald Mitchell, Jr., of Pensacola; Douglas Mitchell (Perilyn), of Marietta, GA; Michele Mitchell, of Dacula, GA; Stephen Mitchell (Greg Kirby), of Athens, GA; and Elizabeth Hutcheson (Rob), of Frisco, TX; and his grandchildren, Ryan Mitchell (Sara), of Beulah, FL; Caroline Watkins (Harris), of Atlanta, GA; Miles and Wilson Mitchell, of Marietta, GA; Lindsey Mitchell, of Pensacola; Abigail and Katherine Hutcheson, of Frisco, TX; and daughter-in-law, Tracy Mitchell, of Pensacola.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy Mitchell, of Pensacola; son, Michael Mitchell, of Pensacola; and his grandson, Thomas Kinnear, of Pensacola.
Ron was born on April 22, 1934 in Greensboro, NC, to Howard and Dorothy Mitchell. He graduated from Pensacola High School, Class of 1952 and attended Emory University. Ron was a second-generation Oldsmobile Cadillac car dealer; first, working alongside his father at the downtown location of Mitchell Motors. Subsequent to his father's death, Ron successfully operated Mitchell Motors and relocated the dealership to Car City before retiring in 2003.
Ron was an active and social businessman who was deeply involved in his community by serving on multiple Boards of Directors. He was a member of Paul-Harris and Sub-West Rotary. He enjoyed boating, golf and travel with the Cadillac 20 Group. His family and friends will always remember him as a kind person with a great sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held 11:00am Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Christ Episcopal Church with Fr. Michael Hoffman officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ron's life.
The family would like to thank the physicians and medical staff at West Florida Healthcare for their compassionate care.
