Dr. Ronald Frederick Eckerlein passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010. Ron was born in Glendale, New York on May 31, 1932 to the late Otto and Mildred Eckerlein. He graduated from New York University, and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he married Dorothy Tomcufcik in 1957. He moved to Pensacola, Florida, in 1959, where he opened his podiatry practice. Ron practiced podiatry in Pensacola for 40 years. Ron was an active member of the Pensacola community. He was a former member of Suburban West Rotary, Hidalgos, and the Krewe of Lafitte. Ron served on the Board of Examiners for the State Podiatry Licensing Board, was active in the Florida Podiatry Association, and was a Director of Gulf Atlantic Insurance Company. Ron also served for many years as a Board Member of the Pensacola Interstate Fair. Ron enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman until his last days. Ron loved spending time at his hunting camp in Alabama with his dear friends Ken and C.R., and his son in law, Will. He also loved traveling and gardening, and grew beautiful roses that were enjoyed by his family and his patients. In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his wife of fifty years, Dorothy, and his aunt, uncles and cousins. Ron is survived by his wife and his Pal, Florence; and his two daughters and their families; Kathy, Will and Claire Errington of Pensacola; Mary Beth, Scott, Andrew and Elizabeth Lazzaro of Leesburg, Virginia. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 11:00 am. at St. Paul Catholic Church, with the Reverend Fr. Joe Fowler celebrant. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. with visitation following until 7:00 p.m., at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 14, 2010. Pallbearers will be Mr. Gene Rosenbaum, Dr. Joseph Saiter, Mr. Richard White, Dr. Joseph Kiefer, Mr. John Prudhomme, and the Honorable John F. Simon. The family wishes to thank Doctors Terry Neill and Brent Videau, and the ICU and PCU nursing staffs at Sacred Heart Hospital, including Dolly, Phoebe and Liza, for their kind and loving care of Ron during his illness. The family would also like to thank longtime family friends Kelley Harris and Callie Anderson for their love and support.
