IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald
Swaine
January 23, 1939 – December 19, 2018
On December 19, 2018, Ron passed away in his sleep after a long battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Olivia. He is survived by his eldest daughter, Alicia, and her husband Dallas, his youngest daughter Meredith and her husband Colin, as well as his two grandchildren Conley, 9, and Olivia, 12. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila Swaine Howard.
Ron was many things. He was a father, a husband, a communityorganizer and a businessman. He was also fun-loving, sarcastic, kind and generous. For those of you who knew him you knew these things; for in his sassiness you knew he picked you and you were lucky.
He loved his Seminoles! A crazed Seminole fan, Ron graduated from Florida State in 1961. He was a long-term Seminole Booster, a charter member of The President's Club at FSU in 1978, as well as being a long-time member of the Golden Chiefs, a partner in both the Charlie Ward and Dick Howser Scholarship Funds and a partner of Bobby Bowden's in the Seminole Golf Classics.
He also loved FIESTA. He was a long-time member and supporter of The Fiesta of Five Flags. He was a knight in 1980, where he first came to love and support the civic organization that gives us parades, The Crawfish Festival and The Seafood Festival. He was a member of the Rebellaires, the Order of Tristan, the Court of Fiesta, and was director of The Pensacola Crawfish Festival for four years. He became President of FIESTA in 1995 and introduced his daughters to the organization as princesses in 1994 and 1997.
He loved cars! Collecting them over the years with friends but scarcely driving them. Everything from a 1958 425 Shelby Cobra to a Bentley to a Ferrari. He also loved the Western Channel – watching movies and series with crazed abandon.
Ron was also committed to his work. He earned his SRA designation from the Society of Real Estate appraisers and then his MAI designation from The American Institute of Real Estate appraisers, after which he taught classes at PJC and UWF. In 1974, he founded Swaine Hoffman and Associates and remained a senior partner until December 1996, when he founded Swaine, Hoffman and Vallimont. He was also very involved in local land developments, including King's Road, Villa Venyce, The Gant and Nature Trail, and was President of the local chapter of the Appraisal Institute in 1980. In 1996, he went to work for Martines, Inc. assisting with real estate valuation and development and continued to be active until 2018. Additionally, between 2000 and 2008, he served as President of the Escambia County Planning Board – a citizen appointed position.
Ron was accomplished, fun-loving and dedicated to his work, his family and his associates. We will always remember him for that and we will think of him always as not only Mombo, but also as The Man of Steel. Thank you so much for being a part of our lives. We love you and will miss you dearly.
