Rosa Mae Gates Saunders, 91, of Pensacola died Tuesday, August 26, 2008, surrounded by her daughter Mary and best friend Betty Saffold. Rosa was born in Atmore, AL but had resided in Pensacola most of her life. She graduated from Pensacola High School. Rosa was a member of NARFE, Golden Agers, PJC Seniors, the Fun Bridge Club and Leisure Timers. Mrs. Saunders was a member of East Hill Baptist Church. Rosa was truly an independent, strong and caring woman who brought so much happiness to so many friends and family. Most importantly her life was always devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She provided the most wonderful childhood for her children. All of her family and friends will miss her so very much. Her husband Alexander Read Saunders; brother F. M. (Buddy) Gates; sisters Mildred Middlebrooks Garrison, Johnnie Lou Barton and Pauline Walters preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter Mary H. Brigman; son Alexander R. Saunders, II (Karen); four sisters Annie Lee Yonkers (Roger), Martha Ruth Lowell, Helena Gauthreaux and Joyce Goldenberg (Sam); five grandchildren Angela Collins, Lisa Patterson, Aimee Saunders, Mary Saunders and Cooper Saunders; three great grandchildren Brandee Gann, Caleb Patterson and Savannah Saunders; and godson Rhae "Bud" Tullos. Visitation will be 10:00am until the Funeral Service at 11:00am Friday, August 29, 2008 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Jim Burkhardt officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Lenga and the staff of Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Inpatient Residence for their loving care.
