IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rose M.
Morthorst
January 14, 1945 – January 6, 2025
Rose Marie "Rosie" Morthorst, 79, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Rosie was born on January 14, 1945, to Paul Morthorst and Mary Libs Morthorst in New Albany, IN. She was the 2nd of 4 siblings. Rosie was a gentle woman who loved God, her family, and people. She graduated from Our Lady of Providence High School in 1963 then entered the Convent of the Order of St. Francis in Oldenburg, IN, where she received her bachelor's in education and taught in Catholic grade schools in Indiana for 25 years. She then decided to return to school to obtain a master's degree in mental health and became a counselor working with children and young adults in a Catholic institution in St. Louis, MO for 18 years.
When health issues became a problem, Rosie moved to Pensacola in 2005 to live close to family. She loved being with family and friends for birthday lunches and holiday celebrations. Rosie began having memory issues about 10 years ago but continued to function well until 3 years ago, when her sister, Paula, moved in to be a help to her. She then spent her last year in memory care, where she enjoyed some of the activities and was able to show her beautiful smile to the residents and staff.
Rosie was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pensacola, FL, and was a member of the choir for many years. Her favorite pastimes were reading, music, playing cards, and Dominos. She loved animals, and they loved her. We will miss Rosie very much but know that she is with the Lord now.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; brother-in-law, Tim Olin; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Survivors include her siblings, Carol Morthorst Field (Steve), Paula Olin, and Robert Morthorst; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Field Payne (Ron) of Pace, FL, Eric Field (Kelly) of Tampa, FL, Michael Field (Brittney) of Tampa, FL, and Bridget Field Vavricka (Michael) of Tampa, FL; as well as great nephews, Tyler Payne, Brandon Payne, and Garrett Field.
A rosary will be prayed from 10:00am until a Memorial Mass begins at 10:30am Monday, February 10, 2025, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, with Fr. Hank Lech celebrant. The family will host a reception with a light lunch following the Mass. A committal service will be held in New Albany, IN at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alpha Center, 6004 Pernella Rd., Pensacola, FL 32514, or an animal rescue of your choice.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Your Life Memory Care and Gentiva Hospice for their excellent care and support.
