Roy H. McGee entered into eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Roy was born on November 5, 1938, to Preston and Thelma McGee in Maplesville, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mildred Corey and Mary Alice McGee; his brothers, Kenneth and Charles McGee; and his beloved son, Roy Derek McGee.
Roy grew up in the small rural town of Maplesville, Alabama, where everyone knew one another and community meant everything. He often shared fond memories of helping his mother on the family farm and working in the cotton fields. During his school years, Roy was known for his friendly personality, charming smile, and being quite the flirt. He proudly played football for the Maplesville Red Devils and was part of the 1956 championship team. While attending Maplesville High School, Roy met the love of his life, Ruby Chambers. The two were married on December 7, 1959. Together, they built a beautiful life and were blessed with four children, Jeannie McGee Harvey (John), Janice McGee Lindsay (Allen), Julie McGee Grebe (Joe), and Roy Derek McGee (Elizabeth). Roy was also blessed with ten grandchildren, Jaida (Dave), Jillian (AJ), Andrew (Kacey), Alyssa (Carolyn), Logan (Chelsea), Tyler (Caitie), Taylor (Ellie), Austin (Jordan), Kyle (Peyton), and Jacqueline (Jake); and twenty-four great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Rubi, Cristiano, Jonathan, Lilliana, Vinny, Rory, Atlas, Easton, Hayden, Skylar, Declan, Wyatt, Tillie, Arthur Babe, soon-to-arrive baby boy Grebe, Roy “Barrett”, Emmy, Cooper, Lucy, Clark, Camden, Brooks, and soon-to-arrive baby boy Molina.
For more than 50 years, Roy faithfully provided for his family through his career in building and construction. He was widely respected for his strong work ethic, dependability, craftsmanship, and integrity. Yet, above all else, his greatest joy was his family. Roy loved deeply and led by example, showing those around him what it meant to love, provide for, and remain devoted to family. His influence and legacy will continue for generations to come. Roy’s life was filled with both blessings and hardships. Over the years, he courageously battled several forms of cancer and other health challenges. However, no loss was greater than the passing of his son, Derek.
Through every season of life, Roy leaned on his faith and continued growing closer to the Lord.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV)
Although his family grieves his passing, they find great comfort in knowing that Roy is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before him and is forever at peace in the presence of Jesus Christ. His family looks forward to the joyful day they will see him again in eternity.
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant.’” — Matthew 25:21 (NKJV)
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until the funeral service begins at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at Maplesville City Cemetery in Maplesville, AL.
