Obituary

Ruby Reyes Flowers, 81, residing in Spanish Fort, AL went to be with The Lord on July 17, 2021.

Ruby was born in Houston, TX on May 12, 1940 the third child and eldest daughter of Phil and Shirley Reyes.  The family relocated to Prichard, AL, where she grew up. Ruby graduated from Vigor High School in 1957 and went on to study X-ray Technology at the Mobile Infirmary. After working as an X-ray Technician for several years, Ruby became a homemaker after moving to Monroeville, AL. When Neal restarted his Naval career, Ruby enjoyed her time as a Navy spouse at their duty stations in Pensacola, FL, Naples, Italy; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and Charleston, SC. Pensacola became their retirement home, and Ruby found great joy in serving her husband, children, grandchildren, parents, family and friends.

Ruby was a gifted pianist, organist, avid reader, proud author of two books, photographer, seamstress and loved to travel. She was a member of the Mayflower Society, the National League of America Pen Women and Daughters of the American Revolution. Ruby was a member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church, in Pensacola, FL, and served in the music ministry and various other ministries of the church. She loved her McIlwain family very much. Most importantly, Ruby loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and looked forward to spending eternity with Him.

Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Captain Neal S, Flowers, M.D.; her parents, Felipe and Shirley Reyes; brothers Felipe Reyes, Jr. and Vincent Reyes; and sisters-in-law Wanda Glasscock Reyes and Barbara Rogers Reyes.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Henderson (Leigh Ann), and Kevin Flowers (Colleen); her daughters, Shirley Stanton (Mike) and Jeaneal Flowers; her grandchildren, Luke Stanton (Catherine), Gary Stanton (Ashley), Joseph Henderson, Kaitlynn Henry (Andrew), Anna Grace Flowers, John Flowers and Michael Flowers (Leah), along with nine great grandchildren. In addition, Ruby is survived by her beloved sister, Stella Reyes Lee, numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Visitation will be 11:30am until the Funeral Service at 12:30pm Monday, July 26, 2021 at McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Rob Looper officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, in Pensacola, FL.

Active Pallbearers will be: Luke Stanton, Gary Stanton, Joseph Henderson, John Flowers, Michael Flowers and Andrew Henry.

Honorary Pallbearers will be:  Mike Stanton, Tommy Jones, Mike Reyes, Trey Reyes, John Walker, Chris Christian and Mark Mashburn.

The family wishes to thank Ruby's sister and best friend, Stella Lee, who ministered to her with tremendous love, laughter and care.  Also, the family appreciates the wonderful staff at Somerby of Mobile Memory Care and Westminster Village of Spanish Fort.  A special thank you to her loving caregivers:  Linda Jackson, Vivian Johnson, Bernice Jones and Ruby Rembert, all of whom lovingly ministered to her during these past several years.
