Ruby Mallari Nicdao, age 64, peacefully entered into eternal life on October 16, 2026, after a six-year journey with blood cancer. Fortified by the Anointing of the Sick and having prayed with her online rosary group the night before, she was welcomed home to the Lord.
Ruby’s friends describe her as a true stalwart who lived her convictions fearlessly and courageously. For more than forty years, she was a tireless pro-life activist, serving as Virginia Project Director for the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, a LifeGuard chairman and sidewalk counselor, and a 40 Days for Life leader. Her work sometimes placed her in danger, but her trust in Christ sustained her, and she lived to see the fruits of her labor. She also taught Catholic religious education and was just two courses shy of earning a master’s degree in theology from Christendom College.
Raised in a Navy family, Ruby was born in San Diego, California, and lived in Guam, Washington, Virginia, and Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Florida and enjoyed a distinguished career as an electronics engineer with The Boeing Company in Crystal City, Virginia, contributing to the development of missile defense systems in support of our nation’s defense.
Ruby was loving and generous to her family, known for her calm demeanor, optimism, and gift for listening, often offering unique insights. She loved to sing and dance, even incorporating dancing to disco music into her physical therapy. She treasured Filipino cuisine, especially Christine’s healthy versions of chicken adobo, sinigang, tinola, and marinated barbecue, which became part of her healing regimen. During her final year, she especially cherished the companionship and camaraderie of her sister Maria, who moved to Houston to care for her and, through her own example of courage and perseverance, encouraged Ruby to continue her medical treatments.
She delighted in her nieces and nephews, taking a genuine interest in their schoolwork, careers, and lives, and gladly shared her faith with them. Deeply devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Divine Mercy, Ruby found strength in the Rosary and prayer throughout her life. One of her last acts was to give her nephew a Divine Mercy Novena and Chaplet brochure. and Her friendships from high school, college, work, and church lasted a lifetime. Through her example, Ruby inspired many to draw closer to Christ, entrust themselves to His mercy, and discover the power of prayer.
Ruby is preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Mallari Nicdao. She is survived by her father, Rafael Laxina Nicdao; her sisters, Maria Black and her husband, Bryan, and Christine Walrath and her husband, Daniel; her nieces, Mia Woolfolk, Bridget Etheridge, Isabella Walrath, and Gabrielle Walrath; her nephew, Jacob Walrath; her great-nephews, Derrick Walker III and Frank Woolfolk Jr.; her great-niece, Camila Velarde, and many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola, Florida.
Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. until Funeral Mass begins at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Pensacola, Florida.
