IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rusty
Rood
January 22, 1951 – December 31, 2025
Ruston "Rusty" Clark Rood was born on January 22, 1951, and was adopted by his parents, Albert C. and Hilda Rood, in Pensacola, FL. He passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
As a young child, one of Rusty's favorite pastimes was learning woodworking in the workshop with his father. Growing up in the East Hill area, he became an expert water-skier and enjoyed working on cars, all with his many friends.
Rusty graduated from George Stone and received his AA degree from Pensacola Junior College. He later obtained his contractor's license and used his craftsman talents to become one of the most sought-after contractors in Pensacola. Known for his meticulous attention to detail and thoughtful approach to every project, he always maintained a waiting list of clients. Rusty had an easy-to-be-around nature and was renowned for leaving the work site every day cleaner than most people's homes, driving off in his spotless work truck, affectionately called the "Hoopty."
In 1975, Rusty married the fun-loving Beth Ward, and together they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage, raising two children and welcoming three wonderful grandchildren. When it came to pastimes, Rusty didn't just have hobbies - he perfected them. He enjoyed spearfishing and scuba diving to collect tropical fish and, for years, maintained a very large, stunning aquarium so beautiful that people would stop by just to admire it. He later took up building and flying remote-controlled gliders, becoming an active member of the Pensacola Aeromodelers. He went on to win multiple soaring competitions and mentored others as they developed their skills.
In retirement, Rusty did not sit still - because he was terrible at that. He returned to woodworking in his home shop, turning beautiful wooden bowls and creating artistic cutting boards, utensils, and unique benches. He also restored furniture to its original glory so family heirlooms could continue to be cherished. Because his father was a WWII fighter pilot, Rusty was a devoted history buff who enjoyed building military models and watching the History Channel. In his backyard, he cultivated a beautiful koi pond where his fish thrived. He especially enjoyed hosting friends and family - particularly his grandchildren - for gatherings filled with fun and laughter. However, when it was time for everyone to leave, Rusty would begin vacuuming the house and thanking them for coming.
Rusty was loved by all and was kind to everyone. He would do anything to help neighbors, family, and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
Rusty is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Beth Ward Rood; children Ruston Rood (Cristina) and Rebecca Rood; grandchildren, Camila and Caylee Rood-Cruz and Ryleigh Rood; brother-in-law, Jim Ward (Cheryl); sister-in-law, Becca Boles (Joey); and many nieces and nephews.
