Ruth Mary Johnson Chadbourne, 89, was a native of Pensacola, FL and passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, after living the best of her ability with the ravages of Alzheimer’s Disease for (8) years. Ruth was born on the feast day of Saint Patrick, March 17, 1936, to her parents Annie Poole Johnson and Christopher A. Johnson.

She attended St. Michael Elementary, Clubbs Junior High, Pensacola High and was a graduate of Pensacola Catholic High, Class of 1954. In 1957 she married Edward M. Chadbourne Jr. and began her vocation of caring for her family which grew to include (2) children, Edward Merriam and Caroline Merriam. She was a consummate homemaker and that was her greatest joy. She also enjoyed working in her yard on Bayou Texar and leisure time with her family spent boating onboard the Caroline and various smaller crafts.

Ruth was a charter member of St. Paul Catholic Church parish and a founding member of The Chadbourne – DeMaria Foundation. She was a volunteer at Baptist Hospital and shared her Catholic faith teaching Religious Education to 4th graders at St. Paul Catholic Church parish. She also volunteered for The Fiesta of Five Flags and was a member of Pirouettes.

Ruth was proceeded in death by her parents and (3) siblings: brother, Chris A. Johnson Jr., and sisters, Suzanne Johnson Cobb and Martha Johnson McLellan. She was also proceeded in death by her grandson, Edward M. Chadbourne IV. She is survived by her (2) children Edward Chadbourne III and Caroline DeMaria, (5) grandchildren: Mary Carolyn Forshee, Forrest DeMaria, Rosalind Dottley, Clotilde DeMaria and Britton Chadbourne, as well as (10) great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, February 20, 2026, at Saint Paul Catholic Church, 3131 Hyde Park Road. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Msgr. Luke Hunt, Father John Cayer and Father William Gibson, all of Saint Ann Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Bayview Memorial Park.

A heartfelt thanks to her dedicated team of caregivers whose comprehensive care enabled Ruth to reside in her beloved home, the center of her vocation. Those caregivers include Rebecca Sifuentes, Johnnie Nance, Brittany Clayton, Kim Hobbs, Victoria Wolfe, Sheri Lozano, Heather Hobbs and Brittney Jackson.
