Ruth Reymundo Costa - known to loved ones as "Ruth," "Mom," "Mother," "Grandmother," "Miss Costa," and "Beania" - slipped quietly and peacefully through the bonds of life Friday, November 30, 2012. A lifelong resident of Pensacola, she was 96 years young. In death as in life, Ruth was surrounded by her children and many other family and friends. She was adored and revered by all who knew her. Ruth was born April 30, 1916 in Pensacola to Emma and Frank Reymundo. She was joined in a loving marriage to John Jose, a Pensacola businessman, and they had 10 children together. Passionate about her community, she was a member of several clubs and organizations. A lover of Christ and His Church, Ruth was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked for Sears Roebuck, Tate High School and State Representative Tom Tobiassen. Ruth was the iron fortress of love for her family and her friends, a shelter for anyone who needed a hand, a mother to the motherless, a partner for the dance, a strong word when one was needed, a big smile for everyone she greeted and the sun around whom her family revolved. Ruth didn't stop living until living was through with her. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her daughter, Joann; her sisters, Ethel Bouchillon and Marie Gonzalez; her brother, Leo Reymundo; and second husband, Glenn Riggs. Ruth is survived by her children: Judy Katona (Dave Mundy), Jenny Roberts (Tiny), Jackie Knowles (Todd), John Costa (Sara Messer), Jim Costa (Betty), Jane Tavella (Tony), Joyce Reedy, Jean Costa (Walter Herrera) and Janet Ashley (Hank). She had 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A beautiful person inside and out, she will be missed. Memorial Mass will be held 12:00 noon Monday, December 3, 2012 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart with Fr. Matthew Worthen celebrant. A reception will follow the service from 1-4pm at the Moose Lodge, 8851 Lewis St., Pensacola, FL 32514. Memorial contributions can be made to Waterfront Mission, 2125 W. Fairfield Dr., Pensacola, FL 32505; Salvation Army, P.O. Box 18569, Pensacola, FL 32523-8569 and Covenant Hospice of Pensacola, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brenda Linkous, Coco Jacknis and Margie Alexander for their contributions, love and support.
