It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Raines announces that on October 14, 2009, Ruth, a 60 year resident of Pensacola, passed away at Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, GA at the age of 91. She was born in Mobile, AL in 1918 to Charles and Emma Gordon. She graduated from Murphy High School in 1936, was a volunteer aid for the Red Cross during WWII and married the love of her life, Horace Raines, in 1946. She was a member of the Pensacola Garden Club and a long time member of McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She retired as an employee of Pensacola Junior Colleges purchasing department. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters; Adelaide Stadther, Minnie Brinkman, Sue Cox, Dot Tew Blackwell; brother, Harry Gordon and grandson, Kevin Murray. She is survived by her husband, Horace Raines (who thanks her for 63 years of a wonderful life together); sister-in-law, Maxine (Jack) Mote, Camano Island, WA; brother-in-law, Norman Cox, Sr., Mobile, AL; sons Gordon (Connie) Raines, San Antonio, TX, Robert (Lisa) Raines, Mt. Airy, GA; and daughter, Shirley (Robert) Crazythunder, Milton, FL; grandchildren Brian Raines, Timothy Raines, Nicholas Raines, Cameron (Jason) Rawls, Casey (Michael) Edwards, Elizabeth Hurd, Richard (Jenny) Crazythunder, Kimberly (Nathan) Schaffield; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 12:00pm until the Funeral Service at 2:00 pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Rev. Arnie Maves will officiate. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. The family would like to express great appreciation to the staff of WillowBrook Court at Lanier Village Estates and the hospice staff of Odyssey HealthCare of Athens, GA for their loving care of Ruth.
