Ruth E. Craft Schonschack, 97, of Gulf Breeze, FL, passed away at The Haven, in Pensacola, FL on Friday, July 12, 2019.
Ruth was born on October 1, 1921 in Mt. Clemens, MI to Henry and Grace (Langfield) Craft. She received a B.A. in Education from Michigan State Normal College and taught various grade levels in the Mt. Clemens Public School System for 30 years. Ruth married Howard Schonschack on November 22, 1944. As a devout Christian, she was an active member of The First Baptist Church of Mt. Clemens, serving many years as Superintendent of Christian Education. Once Ruth and her husband moved to Gulf Breeze, FL, they joined the First Baptist Church of Gulf Breeze. Her love of God was foremost in her life. Ruth loved to plant flowers and vegetables, refinish furniture, cook, boat, travel and entertain. She enjoyed dressing fashionably with an appreciation for natural beauty. Most of all, she was a godly wife and mother whose faith guided her as she taught students, loved her husband and nurtured her children.
Ruth is survived by her children: Henry (Pally) Schonschack of Williamsburg, VA, and Susie (Garry) Knight of Gulf Breeze, FL; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers Tom (Marilyn) Craft of Michigan, Amy DuBois of Michigan, Marjorie Green of North Carolina and Martin (Ruth) Craft of North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard, July 17, 2001; sisters Emily, Florence and Alma; brothers John, Robert, Stanley, Donald, Truman and George.
Private family visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on July 17, 2019 at Harper Morris Funeral Home, Pensacola, FL. A graveside service will commence at 11:00 a.m. on July 17, 2019 at Barrancas National Cemetery, where Ruth will be joining her beloved husband, Howard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North American Mission Board, in her memory.
