Dr. Salvatore Alfio Vernali, 57, of Pensacola Beach, FL passed away peacefully at his home on July 16, 2012. He was born in Catania, Italy on February 2, 1955. Dr. Vernali graduated cum laude from Marist College and received his medical degree in 1983. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey in 1988. This training was followed by a Pulmonary Medicine fellowship at the Beth Israel Medical Center and a Sleep Disorders fellowship at SUNY in Stony Brook. He practiced medicine in the Pensacola area for 20 years and established the Berryhill Medical Plaza in Milton and Advanced Medical Care in Pensacola. Dr. Vernali came to the United States as a teenager, bringing with him his love for the accordion and music. He attended several national accordion conventions and shared his love of music with his friends and teachers Julie Council, Al Martin and Bob Mattus. In recent months, Dr. Vernali established a medical call-in show called MD Hotline on BLAB TV. He answered common medical questions and gave many local musicians a chance to perform because he believed in the therapeutic benefits of music. He ended each show with the lines he wrote: Life is beautiful, treasure it well. It is nonsense to litigate, get upset or feel depressed. If you wake up in the morning and you see the sunrise, you are blessed . He is preceded in death by his parents, Santo and Alfia Vernali. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Dr. Lisbeth Vernali; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle Vernali Pearlstein and Kevin Pearlstein; son, Steven Vernali; brother, Joseph Vernali; niece, Marianne Lambos and friend, Mariah Cuenca. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm"7:00pm with a Rosary being prayed at 5:00pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at10:00am Thursday, July 19, 2012 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Nixon, celebrant. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery.
