Obituary

Sam J. Bonno, Jr., age 75, of Gulf Breeze, FL was called home September 24, 2018. He was born November 17, 1942 in Houston, TX to the late Samuel and Bessie Bonno. Sam was devoted to his Catholic faith and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in Milton, FL where he was on the Parish Council, served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and a member of the Young at Heart. He was also an honorable member of the Knights of Columbus. After graduating from St. Thomas Aquinas H.S. in Houston, TX he went on to work as an elevator specialist for over 42 years. Sam was proud of his Texas and Arkansas based cattle and hog operations as well as his entrepreneurial venture, Bonno Electric. He was a proud foster parent and tenacious volunteer serving with his wife at the Morning Star School at St. John the Evangelist in Pensacola, FL. Sam will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Joe Bonno. Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Peggy Bonno; children Theresa Pensiero of Sacramento, CA, Denise Madigan (Doug) of Park Ridge, IL, Sam Bonno (Rebecca) of Canton, GA, Janna Ahlert (Jay) of Ft. Smith, AR and Matthew Bonno (Katelyn Murray) of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren Timmera Benavente (Casey), Sammy Bonno IV, Cole Bonno, Emma Madigan, Wyatt Bonno, John Madigan and Odin Ahlert; great-grandson Jayden Benavente; siblings Liz Sanders (Karl) of Wimberley, TX and John Bonno (Naomi Scott) of Houston, TX; and nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:00am Monday, October 01, 2018 until a Mass of Christian Burial begins at 10:00am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 6451 Park Ave, Milton, FL 32570. Msgr. Michael V. Reed, JCL as celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pensacola, FL. In Lieu of flowers Sam's family is accepting donations in his name to Morning Star Catholic School at St. John the Evangelist in Pensacola, FL, through Sr. Margaret Ann Calcutta at (850) 623-3600, or to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 6451 Park Ave, Milton, FL 32570. The family offers special thanks to the medical staff at Gulf Breeze Hospital, the staff at M.D. Anderson and their St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church family. Special acknowledgement goes to John Bonno and Naomi Scott for their loving hospitality.
