Samuel Lee Barker, 63, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
Samuel was the youngest child of 3 sons born to Roland and Margrette Barker and grew up in the Pensacola area. He attended local elementary and secondary schools including Wm. J. Woodham High School. After graduating high school in 1971 he attended Pensacola Junior College and transferred in 1973 to the University of South Alabama where he completed his bachelor's degree in History. Following his graduation in 1975 he joined the US Army and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Here he was injured in active duty and discharged due to disabilities in 1977. He then returned home to Pensacola and continued his education at the University of West Florida where he met his one true love, Theresa Nims. They were married on April 27, 1979 at Ferry Pass United Methodist Church. During the next 4 years, he and Theresa had 2 beautiful daughters, Cheryl Lynn Barker Brewer and Ann Margrette Barker Sutton.
While still furthering his education at night in 1978 he started working for Civil Service at the US Naval Air Station in Pensacola, FL. He retired from Civil Service after 8 years. Over the next 3 years he worked for a local lawn maintenance company. It was here that he learned the trade of landscaping and irrigation. In 1989 he ventured out and started his own landscaping business and went on to later receive the prestigious "Parade of Homes" award 10 times for the best landscaped homes of Northwest Florida. He continued this business until 2011. After closing the business he spent the following years with his wife traveling throughout the US and doing his favorite thing, fishing. They were married for 37 years and attended Ferry Pass United Methodist Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church and Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Joyce Nims Barker; daughters, Cheryl Lynn Barker Brewer (Jason) of Lake Wales, FL and Ann Margrette Barker Sutton (Frank) of Milton, FL; 4 grandsons, Kyle Wesley Brewer, Fredrick Thomas Sutton, Matthew Roland Sutton, and Daniel Marcus Sutton; brothers, Dr. Ronald D. Barker (Birgitt) of Munich, Germany and Lawrence "Larry" Barker (Linda) of Savannah, GA.
Memorial Service will be held 10:30am Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Olive Baptist Church.
