Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" Guilbert Early, 81, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

The daughter of Capt. Edward Hunt Guilbert and Ida McMillan Guilbert, Sandy was born in Annapolis, MD on January 7, 1940. The family moved around with the Navy until retiring in her mother's hometown of Pensacola. She learned to hate moving, and with the exception of four years in college, never again relocated. Sandra graduated from Pensacola High School in 1957 and Florida State University in 1961. After teaching English at Escambia High School and Episcopal Day School, she earned her master's degree in Guidance and Counseling at UWF. The majority of her career was spent serving the students of her alma mater, PHS, as a guidance counselor, Director of Guidance, and later (after 2 attempts at retirement) as Testing Coordinator. Sandra was actively involved with Christ Church Parish and served for many years as the mentor for Christ Church's "Education for Ministry" program, an extension of The University of the South. She also served multiple terms on the Vestry of Christ Church and as Chairman of the Episcopal Day School of Christ Church Board. In her younger years, she was an active volunteer in the Junior League of Pensacola, Pensacola Panhellenic, and Evenings in Old Seville Square. Sandra was also a member of Delta Delta Delta and Tiger Bay Club. She enjoyed traveling, fine dining, reading with her Epic Book Club, spending time with family at the beach, and attending performances of the Pensacola Symphony, Pensacola Opera, Pensacola Little Theater, and Pensacola Saenger's Broadway Series.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and her older half-brother, Denny.

She is survived by her former husband of 20 years, friend, and co-parent, Ben Early of Pensacola; their children, Cathy (Jim) Allebach, Cliff Early, and beloved grandsons, Benjamin Early and Jack Allebach (and grand-dog, Clyde), all of Pensacola; brothers, Ed Guilbert (Sara) of Peachtree City, GA and Shelby Guilbert (Peggy) of Shreveport, LA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special extended family, Deborah and Devan Dunlap and Aspen Martin, Christine Early, and Martha Hobgood.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00am Monday, December 20, 2021, at Christ Episcopal Church, with Dr. Michael Hoffman officiating. Following the service, the family will receive guests in the Parish Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Parish, EFM Scholarship Fund.
