Obituary

Sarah Frances "Sally" Kennedy Turner , lived life to the absolute fullest and passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018 with her children by her side.

Sally, a native Pensacolian, was born on March 23, 1931 to Thomas Seilles and Frankie Mae Judevine Kennedy. She lived most of her life along Scenic Highway overlooking her much-loved Escambia Bay. She attended Annie K. Suter Elementary School and graduated in 1949 from Pensacola High School, where she loved being a Tiger cheerleader and homecoming queen.

Sally attended Florida State University, where she was a performer in the F.S.U. Flying Circus. She was also a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, in which she remained an active alum. During her tenure at FSU, her infectious smile and gregarious spirit won her several titles such as FSU Homecoming Queen and Miss FSU. Upon graduating in 1953, with a degree in Early Childhood Education, Sally returned to Pensacola to teach third grade at A.K. Suter. In 1954 she reigned as Queen of the Fiesta of Five Flags and later married Pensacola native Richard Hill "Dick" Turner.

Along with rearing two sons and two daughters, Sally was unceasing in her capacity for service. Through the years, she was active in The Pensacola Junior Service League and volunteered with the Speech & Hearing Center, the March of Dimes and served as a long term Pink Lady with her mother at Sacred Heart Hospital. Her belief in the mission of Sacred Heart Hospital led her to sit on its advisory council for many years.

In 1995, a commitment to the preservation of her treasured Scenic Highway spurred her and other local residents to form a corridor advocacy group in order to pursue the designation of the "Pensacola Scenic Bluffs Highway" as a Florida Scenic Highway.

Sally's love for the outdoors and sports was evident through her many years playing tennis, water skiing on the bay, and snow skiing with the Pensacola Ski Club. She was also a passionate card player, exceptional at bridge, playing many times a week with several bridge groups.

Sally is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hill Turner and her older brothers, Mallory Kennedy and his wife, Blanche and Tommy Kennedy.
