Newman Scott Daniels, 80, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, December 16, 2024.

Scott was born on August 20, 1944, in Pensacola, FL at the Naval Air Station Hospital to Julius Edward Daniels and Camille Thompson Daniels Patterson. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Warrington, FL, and graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in 1962. In 1967, he received a degree in Criminology from Florida State University.

Scott began his career in law enforcement in December 1967 with the Florida State Beverage Department. He took military leave in 1969 to join the US Navy Reserves, where he spent two years aboard a nuclear submarine, sailing the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Upon his return to state service in 1971, he joined the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, initially stationed in Miami until 1975. He transferred to Pensacola from 1975 to 1979 before returning to Miami from 1979 to 1989. In 1989, he moved to the Florida Keys, where he was assigned to homicide for 15 years until his retirement in 2003. After retiring from the FDLE, he served as a reserve homicide detective with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office from 2003 to 2006.

While living in the Keys, he resided on Big Pine Key, located 30 miles north of Key West. He enjoyed scuba diving and spearfishing, frequently taking trips to the Marquesas and Dry Tortugas west of Key West. He also had a passion for maintaining his boat, which was berthed in the canal at his home.

In 2006, Scott moved back to Pensacola to be closer to his family. He became a regular volunteer at the Manna Food Pantry in Pensacola.

In 2001, Scott was fortunate to meet his beloved companion, Cheryl Mosher, who has been by his side ever since.
