Obituary

Sergeant Major William A. "Bill" Robles died peacefully at the San Antonio Military Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, after a prolonged illness on 5 January 2017. He was surrounded by family, friends, and his Special Forces Brothers.

He was born in El Salvador, and later raised in Los Angeles, CA. He enlisted in the California National Guard in 1986 and entered active duty in 1988 upon graduating high school.

Bill served as a rifleman in the 82nd Airborne Division. In 1993, he became an Army Special Forces Communications Sergeant and served multiple assignments and duty positions in the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), and Special Operations Command-Europe. SGM Robles' last assignment was as an instructor at the Brazilian Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, a part of the Army South Military Personnel Exchange Program. He deployed to Saudi Arabia, Kosovo, Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan.

SGM Robles' awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (with OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (with 2 OLC), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges, Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, as well as the Honduran, Mexican and Paraguayan Airborne badges.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Daisy Fuentes.

He is survived by his wife, Martina Robles and daughter, Becky Robles both members of the US Army.

Visitation will be held 10am-1pm and 4pm-8pm Tuesday, January 17, 2017 with a rosary and prayer service at 6:30pm at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Further visitation will be held 4pm-8pm Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Funeral Service will be held 12:00noon Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with US Army Chaplain John Sedwick. Burial will follow at 2:00pm at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.

Active Pallbearers will be CPT Hastings, W01 Laubach, MSG Harris, SFC Rouse, SFC Zafiropoulus, SSG Peck, SSG Braun, SSG Dingman and SSG Ferry.

In lieu of flowers, the Robles family requests a donation be made to St Jude's Children Research Hospital to assist with the research and treatment of children stricken with cancer.
