Shirley A. Weakley, age 96, of Sarasota, FL, died peacefully on July 11, 2025, at her daughters' home in Pensacola, FL, surrounded by family.
She was the devoted wife of the late Robert V. Weakley for 65 wonderful years. Shirley was born in Providence, RI on December 12, 1928, to the late Thomas F. and Margaret M. McKenzie Lennon. She lived in Providence for 46 years before moving to Sarasota in 1975. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Siesta Key for over 45 years.
Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband, reading, working on crossword puzzles, and keeping up with current events. She loved her family and her home and found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She had a wonderful, dry sense of humor, and could always laugh at the challenges that living 96 years presented.
Shirley is survived by two daughters, Linda (Stephen) Rees of Sarasota, FL and Nancy Derr, of Pensacola, FL; two sons, Robert Jr. (Lori) Weakley, of Sarasota, FL, David (Maureen) Weakley, of Santa Rita, Guam; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; brother, Eugene Lennon, of Cranston, RI.
She is preceded in death by brothers, Stephen, Thomas, James, Joseph, Raymond Lennon; sister, Rita Lennon; son-in-law, Stephen Derr; and grandson, William "Codie" Willis.
A celebration of her life was held on August 17, 2025, in Sarasota, FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Siesta Key, FL.
She will be laid to rest with her husband on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
Memorial Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
