IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sonia Gail
Gray Davis
August 24, 1946 – October 5, 2025
Sonia Gail Gray Davis, born August 24, 1946, in Ogdensburg, NY, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025, after a long and valiant fight. She was 79.
Sonia lived a rich and varied life, one that carried her from the quiet hills of northern New York to the sun-drenched shores of Sicily, through the vibrant landscapes of California, and ultimately to the Gulf Coast of Florida - first Milton, then Pensacola, where she made her final home. Her journey was marked by resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to service.
Sonia graduated from Hermon-DeKalb Central High School, New York, in 1964. A graduate of Pensacola State College, Sonia earned her nursing degree and later attended the University of West Florida. Her professional life reflected her dedication to helping others, with positions at Eastman Kodak, Santa Rosa Gazette, Azalea Trace, and the University of West Florida in both administrative and nursing capacities. She touched countless lives through her work, always offering care with grace and strength.
Sonia was the beloved mother of Tanya (Brian), Aaron (Allie), and Jefferson (Yvonne). She was a cherished grandmother to Austin (Marissa), McKenna, Nolan, Emily, Kyle, Sarah, Christian, and Ella, and a proud great-grandmother to Everett and Eleanor Jo. Sonia took special pride in the fact that her granddaughters, Emily and McKenna, followed in her (and their great-grandmother's) footsteps as nurses - continuing a legacy of compassion and care.
She is survived by her siblings, Linda (Robert), Lynn (Janice), and Eric (Denise), as well as nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and close friends who will remember her warmth, humor, and enduring spirit.
Sonia is preceded in death by her parents, A. Leonard and Shirley (Reed) Gray; son, Gregory Gurnette; husbands, Larry Davis and Dave Jenson; and partner, Robert Montgomery.
Sonia had a deep and abiding love for dogs, and her loyal companion Gertie held a special place in her heart. Gertie was her constant buddy and source of joy.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Baptist Hospital for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Sonia throughout her final journey.
Sonia's legacy is one of courage, compassion, and connection. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
