Stanley "Stan" Vincent Dean, Jr. was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 19, 1938. He lived in Florida with his mother, Jeanette Caudill, for most of his early life. Graduating from Pensacola High School in 1956, he joined The United States Air Force. After serving for four years as a Russian linguist, stationed in Stuttgart, Germany, he resumed his education. Stan held a B.A. in Theatre Arts from the University of West Florida and an M.F.A. in Drama from the University of Oklahoma, where he was a Sam S. Shubert Playwriting Fellow. He also studied creative writing with novelist-in-residence, Harry Crews, at the University of Florida.
A multi-talented man, Stan has been an actor, director, and educator for more than fifty-five years. He has written plays, short stories and, in recent years, published three books of poetry;

. Stan was a member of the Drama League and the Academy of American Poets. He lived and worked in Pensacola, Florida, where he retired as Director of Theatre at Pensacola State College. He has continued to serve PSC as Lyceum Director until his death.
Throughout his life, Stan Dean mentored many talented actors, singers, and technical support people, often mingling his ready wit with sage stage advice and direction. He leaves the world of entertainment in Pensacola to mourn the loss of his loving guidance and influence.
Stan is survived by his daughter, Shannon Dean-Smith; son-in-law, Lorne Smith; grandchildren, Tucker, Fifi, and Wyatt Smith, as well as cherished friends, Kelly Ryan and Marc Petersen.
A Memorial Service for Stan will be held 1:00pm Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating.
