Obituary

Stephanie Mobley Marks, 59, of Pensacola fell asleep in the Lord early in the morning of Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the UAB hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. She was born in Mayfield, Kentucky and her family soon moved to Brewton, Alabama and then Pensacola, Florida. She attended local schools graduating from Woodham High School. Comforting others was a natural strength of hers and she used that strength as she studied nursing. She originally planned to attend Florida State University but chose to stay closer to home after her father suffered a heart attack. She attended Mobile Infirmary and Pensacola Junior College and passed the Florida State Nursing Board exam to become a certified Registered Nurse. After school Stephanie worked at Baptist Hospital. She then began to focus on ophthalmology at the Florida Prevention of Blindness and later worked for Dr. James Carruth. Her caring nature and gift for uplifting everyone's spirits touched every patient throughout her career. Stephanie married James John Marks Jr on August 26, 1978, although their love story began more than a decade earlier when he was first smitten by the office assistant bringing the attendance reports to the teachers at Ferry Pass Junior High in 1966. James played sports and Stephanie was a cheerleader so they knew of each other from those interactions. In the summer of 1968 while she was a Red Cross Volunteen, James was hospitalized for surgery. She visited him and managed to get permission to bring him a hamburger from the hospital cafe which was quite a treat compared to the diet he was getting after the removal of four molars. Still it was not until 1975 when he was being admitted to the hospital that fate had him talk with her mother who said he should give her daughter a call. They started dating and their love has grown every day since. Stephanie stopped working as a paid nurse after the wedding but truly never stopped nursing. She continued to take care of numerous family members over the years and has always maintained her license as active. At the same time she was learning about the family business as well as contributing her time and talents to numerous charitable activities and organizations. Another chapter of her life began as she became a loving and devoted mother to two sons in 1982 and 1983. She dedicated herself to being the best mother possible to Jimmy and Alex, who are still her pride and joy. She spent their childhood years with walks to the helicopter field and to see the horses, baseball and soccer practices, numerous school field trips and planning themed birthday parties. Stephanie loved her family and always placed their needs before her own. Each experience shared with them was truly special and will not be forgotten. She is survived by James John Marks Jr and her sons James John Marks III and Alexander Mobley Marks (Britney), her mother Frances Rhames Mobley, her brother David Ross Mobley (Olga-Dean) and numerous other family members. The funeral will be held at Malbis Memorial Church in Daphne, Alabama Friday, June 7 at 2:00 pm with burial service to follow.
