Obituary

Stephen "Steve" Alan Derr, age 72, of Pensacola, went home to be with the Lord May 23rd, 2024. Steve was born on September 11, 1951 and grew up on Siesta Key, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents John R. Derr, Sr. and Berenice Yaeger Derr, and infant brother, Gary Derr. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. He graduated high school in 1969 from Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, FL. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy serving at Whiting Field, where he was with Training Squadron 2 (VT-2) and was honorably discharged in 1974. Soon after, he met the love of his life, Nancy, on Siesta Key Beach, and they were married in 1975. He graduated from the University of West Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting in 1982. He was employed as an accountant by Gulf Power Company for 33 years, until his retirement.

Steve was an avid surfer in his youth. His most recent hobbies included reading, gardening, traveling, and morning walks with his wife. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and he held precious the joy that they brought to his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Nancy Weakley Derr; daughters, Lauren Derr Scapecchi and Leigh Anne Mason: son-in-law, Richard David Scapecchi; grandchildren, Celeste Marie, Leila Katherine, Dominic Paul, Gemma Elizabeth Scapecchi; brothers, Frederick, John Jr., and Wayne Derr; sisters, Jane Lacy and Lucy Patton; and many loved nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, June 3rd, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 9945 Hillview Dr, Pensacola, FL 32514.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Place Center, 5965 Cattleridge Blvd, ste. 100, Sarasota, FL 34232, parkinsonplace.org or Parkinsons Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, ste. 800 Miami, FL 33131, parkinson,org.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, doctors and other staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for the loving care provided to Steve.
