Obituary

Stephen O'Neill  "Stevie" Soderlind, 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at  James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital in Tampa, FL. Stevie was born April 21, 1944 to Woodrow and Virginia Soderlind in Miami, FL. He grew up in Pensacola, FL with his parents and 9 brothers and sisters. Stevie attended Little Flower Catholic School and St. Michael Catholic School. He graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in 1962 and attended  Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL.

Stevie served as member of the U.S. Army. He graduated from Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA and served in the Infantry Division. In 1967, he was stationed in Hawaii where he was training for a combat assignment in Vietnam. During that time, he was wounded in the line of duty and was subsequently medically discharged as a First Lieutenant.

Stevie moved to Tampa where he graduated from the University of South Florida. After graduation, he continued his studies and became a licensed stockbroker. He was a partner in FSC Securities until his retirement. Stevie was active in his community and his church, Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Stevie was a loving son, sibling, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a very kind and generous nature and an entertaining dry sense of humor. He had an adventurous spirit and loved to explore the outdoors. He appreciated the beauty of nature and he especially loved the water.

Stevie was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary and brother-in-law, John Donovan, Jr.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Norma; their son, Brant Graves; daughter-in-law, Jennifer and grandson, Trace. Stevie is also survived by his siblings: Woodrow, Jr. and his wife, Lynn; Mickey and his wife, Debbie; Jimmy and his wife, Diane; John; Theresa Harrell and her husband, Bill; Paul and his wife, Susan; Ginger Barnhill and her husband, Gordon; and Martha. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Cinda Soderlind and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services will held on Monday, February 6, 2017at St. Paul Catholic Church, 3131 Hyde Park Rd., Pensacola. The rosary will be recited at 9:45am and visitation will follow with the Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Doug Halsema, Celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jack Donovan, Patrick Donovan, Joe Donovan, Michael Soderlind, Stephen Soderlind and Tyler Soderlind.

Stevie's family appreciates the dedicated and attentive care provided by the medical staff at James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital, especially those in the Spinal Cord Injury Unit, F-Wing and the Medical Intensive Care Unit.
