Obituary

Steven Brian Weeks, 73, of Pensacola Beach, FL passed away on Friday June 19 th , 2020.

Steve was born in Berkeley, California and grew up in neighboring San Lorenzo.  He was a varsity swimmer and the Valedictorian of his high school.  At the University of California, Berkeley he received his bachelor's degree in engineering and was in ROTC before his 1968 commissioning in the US Navy.

He completed a master's degree in mechanical engineering at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.  After earning his wings at NAS Pensacola, Steve served in Vietnam as an A7 pilot off the USS Oriskany.  He returned to Pensacola and continued his service as a flight instructor.

Ellen and Steve met in Pensacola and were married in 1976.  After retiring from the Navy, Steve started his 35-year career at York International.  After working an office in Pennsylvania, the couple settled in Southern California (Garden Grove / Fountain Valley) where they had their daughters, Amanda and Caroline.  Steve was a proud and active father.  He enjoyed sailing, both cruising and racing his Catalina 30, Stellam & Co.  He was a sports fan with love of both college, and professional football.  He finished his career as a Sales Manager at a San Antonio, Texas manufacturing plant in 2012.

After his retirement he and Ellen moved back to Pensacola in 2013 to enjoy the Gulf and family.  He loved living at the beach and being part of the Pensacola Beach community.  If you have ever been asked how many steps to the top of the Pensacola Lighthouse or what aircraft carrier is sunk 20 miles off the Pensacola Beach coast, you have probably met Steve.

Steve is survived by his wife Ellen and daughters Amanda (Paul) and Caroline.  A celebration of life in his honor will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to the USS Oriskany (CVA-34) Model Fund.
