Sue Jenson of Pensacola, FL, formerly of Rock Island, IL died January 13, 2011 at home following a courageous battle with cancer. A private service will be conducted at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island. Sue was born November 11, 1949 in Bloomington, IL, the daughter of Stan and Hazel Barker. She was married to David Jenson on July 17, 1976. Sue was a graduate of Rock Island High and the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was also certified by the Library of Congress as a Braillist. Though she transcribed a great variety of books, she derived special satisfaction in opening the minds of young people through the transcription of textbooks. She and her husband retired to their home in Pensacola in 2003 and created a group of loving friends in the many organizations in which they were involved. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, David Jenson; son, James Meier-Gast, (his wife Becky), three grandchildren, Cian, Elizabeth, and Grace, of Mount Vernon, IA; mother, Hazel Barker of Rock Island; sister, Cathy Gardiner (husband Joe) of Moline, IL; and brother Larry Barker (wife Stephanie) of Aldie, VA. She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents. Memorials may be made in memory of Susan Jenson to the Braille Library and Transcribing Services, Inc., 517 N.
