Susie met Curtis near the end of her senior year in high school, and shortly fell in love. They married on August 28, 1954, a marriage which lasted 69 years until her death. She was always faithful to her Lord and family. In December 1955, they moved to Montgomery, AL for 26 months, where she was active member of the First Baptist Church in Montgomery. They returned to Graceville in 1958 and enjoyed living there for the next 20 years, where they were very active in the First Baptist Church.
Susie was one of the first employees of the Peoples Bank of Graceville. She was later appointed by Governor Lawton Chiles as Assistant Director of the Jackson County Senior Citizens Organization.
Susie and Curtis joined First Baptist Church of Pensacola in 1978. Shortly after joining the church, Susie began working as the Student Secretary at the C.A.C., now known as the R.O.C. for 6 years. She then accepted a job with the Miss American Coed Pageant as secretary to the owner and traveled to many states during her tenure.
Susie was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed playing with her church and community friends. In her later years, she really enjoyed her time at First Baptist Pensacola, musicals, Wednesday meals, and Sunday School.
