The Reverend Theodore "Ted" R. Chumley, Jr., 84, of Pensacola, FL, ascended to the Church Triumphant on Friday, November 25, 2022.
He was born September 23, 1938, in Dallas, TX, to Theodore R. Chumley, Sr. and Mary Pruett Chumley. Ted was a resident of Pensacola, FL, since August 1990, after completing a career as Chaplain, United States Air Force. He served as Student Intern, Stuart Robinson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY; Associate Pastor, Orchard Park Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, IN; and Pastor, First Presbyterian Church in Montpelier, OH; all prior to entering the military service. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Baylor University, Waco, TX, in 1960, and his Master of Divinity Degree at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, in 1963. He was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on July 9, 1963, by Brazos Presbytery, Synod of the Sun, meeting at Central Presbyterian Church, Waco, TX. After the service and before retirement he served as Stated Supply at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pensacola, FL; as Chaplain for Covenant Hospice in Pensacola, FL; and as Chaplain at Westminster Retirement Village, Pensacola, FL.
Ted is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bettie Sue Chumley.
He is survived by his wife of 62 wonderful years, Norma Lambert Chumley of Pensacola, FL; daughters, Robyn A. Chumley, USAF (Ret.) and Laura M. Sasser both of Pensacola, FL; as well as a grandson, Theodore "Ted" D. Sasser, also of Pensacola, FL.
Memorial Service will be held 10:00am Monday, January 30, 2023, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Dr. Hugh Hamilton officiating. A private family committal was held at Barrancas National Cemetery.
