IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Terry Lee
Hanks
May 8, 1947 – August 8, 2020
Terry Lee Hanks, 73, passed away on August 8, 2020 due to complications from COVID-19. He was born in Dayton, Ohio to Jane and Harvey Hanks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn Gallagher Hanks, in 2018. He was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.
Terry graduated from Wayne High School in Dayton in 1965 and then enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the USS Sam Rayburn in the US Navy Submarine Service. After serving his country, he completed an AS degree at Sinclair Community College and then spent the rest of his career working for the Department of Defense in civil service roles. He retired in 2010 from his position at Saufley Field in Pensacola, Florida.
Terry and Kathryn married in 1972 and had two children, Jason and Tara, while living in Dayton. In 1981, the family moved to Pensacola where they welcomed their third child, Thomas. They were loved by friends and neighbors and were known for always being willing to help someone in need. Terry bravely battled and recovered from cancer twice, never letting it dampen his sense of humor. He was always quick with a joke or to make the people around him smile. He will be missed terribly by those who knew him.
He is survived by his son Jason Hanks of Pensacola, daughter Tara Singleton (Dewey) of Tampa, Florida, son Thomas Hanks (Jennifer) of Lithia, Florida, and the grandchildren who were the light of his life: Joella, Charlie, Henry, & Lucas. He is also survived by his brothers Michael Hanks (Susan) of Avon, Indiana and Sam Hanks (Judy) of Andrews, North Carolina as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rachel Williamson and the ICU nurses and staff at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital for the care they took with Terry during his last days.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no service will be held at this time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society.
