Judge Henderson was born in Bogalusa, LA and moved around the southern US while his father built paper mills in Louisiana, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida. He attended Georgia Tech initially, but his studies were interrupted by World War II, when he joined the Army Air Corps as a flight cadet. Upon earning his wings, he became a B-I7 pilot, flying 50 combat missions out of North Africa with the 99th Bomber Group. He remained in the Air Force Reserve for 30 years, serving as the Air Force Academy liaison officer in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to complete his Bachelor of Arts and attain a law degree. Upon graduation of law school in 1950, he moved to Lenoir, NC to begin a private law practice. In Lenoir, he met and married his lovely wife, Inez Moore. They shared a beautiful marriage of 54 years before Inez went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2008. After they were married, the couple returned to Pensacola, where he practiced at the law firm of Fisher, Hepner & Hertz and served as part time Judge in Small Claims Court from February 1965 to October 1969. In October 1969, he was appointed by Governor Claude Kirk to the Court of Record, Juvenile Division. In January 1971 he returned to private law practice. In January 1973, he was elected to the Escambia County Judge position. He was selected by Chief Judge Woodrow Melvin and then M.C. Blanchard to serve as Administrative Judge for County Court until his retirement in December 1988. In these roles, he was instrumental in establishing the Juvenile Court system and the Probation program. He also served as President of the County Judges Conference. Professionally, he was admitted to practice before the North Carolina and Florida Supreme Courts, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Military Appeal. He was a member of the North Carolina and Florida Bar societies and the Society of the Bar of the First Judicial Circuit. After retirement, he remained active in the community, primarily as a member of the Suburban West Rotary Club. He was extremely proud of his designation as a Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by his daughter, Molly Cleary, her husband William Cleary, and their beautiful children Lauren and Rebecca Cleary. He is also survived by his niece Hollis Bliss of Crawfordville, FL, his nephews Dick, and Bob Richard of Birmingham, AL, Mike Richard of Fairview, NC, Ayme Black of Seneca, SC, Ruth Ervin of Montpelier, VA. Judge Henderson was a strong Christian gentleman, a member of The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish, and a member of the Diocesan Independent Review Board for the Diocese of Pensacola/-Tallahassee. He trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior and went to be with Him on December 29, 2008.
